Yesterday morning, the clouds cleared and I took the opportunity to get out and enjoy the outdoors. And possibly take some photographs. I returned to a location I had visited a number of years ago, about an hour’s drive north and east of Canmore, Waiparous Village.
My main interest was Waiparous Creek and the Ghost River which join at this very small community. I took a number of pictures in and around an old bridge. The bridge can be described as “having character” or needing paint. I’ve included the following picture, the favourite among the many.
Wandering downstream of the bridge, I found this very picturesque bend in the Ghost River. The creek enters on the left about mid-way up the side of the image. I took a long exposure for this shot (about 1 minute), creating a very soft look to the flowing water.
This picture of Waiparous Creek was taken just upstream of the bridge. I used a much shorter exposure (.25 sec.), enough to blur the white water a little but keeping the shape of the ripples as they course over the rocks on the creek bed.
En route to Waiparous Village, I travelled through an area of the foothills, always very scenic. I was a little short of time, so I have only this one photograph featuring a back country road rambling through the hills. I’ll need to go back when I have more time.
Very nice shots….I particularly liked the Ghost River shot as it has great composition and an interesting effect with the water flow/ripples!

I most lov how you’ve captured the colour that the minerals give mountain waters! Carol
Hi Peter,
Thanks for sharing these images. Nice compositions, as usual. I have not visited this area, but will certainly do so soon.
You would have been a really good geography teacher!
A map of the area, descriptions and detailed explanations of each photos!!!
A great pleasure for the eyes !
I love the Country image Peter. Great Shot!
