We returned to B.C. this week for some more golf in the Invermere area. We spent two nights at the Panorama Mountain Resort, best known for its skiing but now an all season resort, including an excellent golf course. It has grown remarkably since our earliest visits in the late 1980’s when it was a favourite ski destination for the Hopkins family.
I took a little walk around the resort after golf yesterday and took a camera with me. I got quite a few pictures and have chosen a few to include in this post. No particular theme for this series of photos, just a few shots that appealed to me.
A view up the ski hill from the base. These slopes are part of the bottom third of the mountain, which continues upward to the left. Panorama offers great skiing with a vertical drop of over 4000 ft from top to bottom. It has hosted World Cup Alpine Ski events on a couple of occasions. With the onset of autumn which comes early at this altitude (base elevation of 3800 ft). shrubs on the ski runs are turning red.
This gondola is a short one, carrying passengers from the lower village to the main resort area at the base of the mountain. It sits idle on a quiet, late summer day. The bright pink flowers in the foreground are thistle flowers.
My walk led me along the banks of Toby Creek, where a stand of aspens caught my eye. I like this scene for the brightly coloured grasses growing at the base of the aspen trunks.
This is a pretty simple photo, with not too much going on. The late afternoon sunlight is creating some interesting shadows and there is a nice mix of colours from the grasses in the foreground to the brilliant blue sky. It looks more like an autumn scene than it really is. The red trees are regrettably dead trees, victims of the pine beetle infestation in British Columbia. Within a couple of weeks the green of the pines will be complemented by the brilliant yellow of the aspen leaves.
