We’ve recently returned from a family holiday, all of us together for ten wonderful days in the Disney realm. We began with three days at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL, followed by another 7 days on board the Disney Fantasy, cruising in the Caribbean.
Most of my photographic efforts were directed to capturing us having fun. I could not however ignore the beautiful scenery and fantastic light of the tropical waters and islands we visited. Today, I’ll share of few of my scenic favourites from our cruise.
After three days at sea, we reached our first port of call, Tortola, one of the British Virgin Islands. We spent a wonderful afternoon at Jost Van Dyke Beach, on a nearby island of the same name. The vibrant green, blue and aqua hues were absolutely striking.
Later that evening, we cast off for nearby St. Thomas, part of the U.S. Virgin Islands. My next picture was taken from a viewpoint named for Sir Francis Drake, looking eastward with the Island of Tortola in the distance.
This photograph depicts the harbour of the Port of St. John on the island of St. Thomas.
While at sea, I witnessed some dramatic views of the sky, the ocean and the light that brought these scenes to life.
Disney has a flair for the dramatic, saving the best for last. Our final stop was Castaway Cay in the Bahamas, an island that is owned by the company and caters exclusively to its cruises. It is spectacular, we would like to have stayed longer.
My last photograph for today features the Disney Fantasy, our home and our transportation for the week. It’s a beautiful ship that provided us a wonderful, nautical holiday.
Thanks for sending these, Peter. A pleasant visual trip through that part of the world. Splendid colours, and I can feel the warmth. As always, thanks for the graphics and commentary.
Hi Peter:
Looks like you had a fantastic cruise with the family. The pictures are great, as usual, you do so well with just water, capturing the waves. Will enjoy hearing all about the trip and tell that beautiful wife of yours, I’ll give a call and we’ll do lunch and…..maybe a little shopping.
