I go for a daily walk in and around the Town of Canmore. I’m fortunate that there are many undeveloped areas within the town limits where I can enjoy nature and view wildlife (birds, deer, elk, and coyotes most usually). I often carry a camera and take advantage of good opportunites when they occur.
Yesterday was a beautiful, spring day following winter a few days prior. A late snowfall wasn’t all that welcome but the moisture certainly helps the flora and you’ll see lots of greenery in today’s photos.
My first image today features Policeman’s Creek, viewed from the bridge crossing it. The creek borders the residential area of Spring Creek and from here, I’m looking northwest toward Cascade Mountain, shrouded in cloud.
After crossing the creek, I wandered along the boardwalk toward the downtown area of Canmore.
I turned onto Canmore’s main street, 8th Street and stopped to take a photograph of the historic Northwest Mounted Police Barracks. Originally established in 1873 to maintain order in the North-Westwest Territories, the force ultimately evolved to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Another longstanding building on Canmore’s main street is The Settler’s Cabin, a popular gift shop.
One of Canmore’s great scenes is the view at the main bridge crossing the Bow, with Ha Ling Peak, Mount Lawrence Grassi and the Ship’s Prow in the background. This image is exemplifies what I consider a good photographic opportunity, snowy peaks enveloped in wispy clouds.
My last picture for today is a favourite location of mine, a place I walk by every day. It’s a small bridge over Canmore Creek, one of several tributaries of the Bow River that drains the area below Ha Ling Peak, Mount Lawrence Grassi and the Ship’s Prow.
Note re flowers in the header: For a place that endured a good snowfall only days ago, the fruit tree flowers are looking pretty good.
As per usual – Beautiful!
Hi Peter:
Canmore NEVER looked so good, you should submit your pictures to City Council so they can do a brochure and see how great the area is for those visiting.
When I see your pictures, I wish I had at least one eye for the beauty you capture.
Thanks for sharing.
Hi to Rolande.
