One of the great things about visiting Eastern Canada at this time of the year is the autumn colours. The final leg of our fall holiday was the trip from Fredericton to Chicoutimi, QC via Quebec City, travelling with Rolande’s brother, Yvon and sister-in-law, Linda. This route is a cornucopia of autumn scenes and our timing was very good. Following are a series of scenes taken between Edmunston, NB and Riviere du Loup, QC and then between Quebec City and Chicoutimi.
Taken through the car window on highway 185, near Cabano, QC. Normally, I prefer not to include roads in my pictures, but after viewing this one I concluded it fit very nicely. I was after the colours on the hill but I think the image is more interesting with the geometry of the curved road and the precise spacing of the signs helping to keep the unwary driver on the track.
We took a side trip into the village of Notre Dame du Lac where we found some beautiful colours, including the above shot along the lake shore. Following is another shot taken in Notre Dame du Lac, this one featuring a brilliantly coloured maple tree next to farmhouse. Looks like it could be on fire!
The next photos were taken on the second day of this trip, north of Quebec City on Route 175 to Chicoutimi. The colours of the deciduous trees on this particular stretch of highway had faded a little but we found lots of colour in this brilliant stand of larch trees ringing a small lake.
Another scene featuring larch trees, known locally as des mélèzes. I couldn’t resist the brilliant reflections in another pretty lake on the way to Chicoutimi.
This last photo for today features the Riviere St Cyriac, just south of Chicoutimi. What caught my eye was the slash of indigo and white bisecting the scene and its stark contrast with the softer tones of the autumn leaves.
My next post will be the last in this series from our recent holiday. It will feature scenes in and around Chicoutimi, an area that offers some very nice and diverse scenery. Stay tuned.
