It’s autumn, the most colourful season of the year. I’ve been getting out with a camera to capture the vibrant hues of the season. I’ll be posting a series of blogs capturing the colours in different areas in and around Canmore as the season progresses.
Yesterday, I went out with Stewart Hamilton, friend and talented photographer to shoot some scenes along the Montane Trail, a pathway above the town, on its north side. This first picture shows a typical section of the trail, perched on the slopes of Mount Lady MacDonald.

The light yesterday was very much on and off. Clouds were blowing across the sky, intermittently blocking the sunlight. I took the next picture in a brief period of sunlight breaking through. I was pleased to capture this scene of some aspens casting their shadows onto the trail.

This particular rise in the path caught my attention as I approached it. I took the picture while standing below the top of the rise, with my camera at eye level. I like the disorderly appearance of the leaves scattered on the path and the bordering grasses dangling down.

This next scene was a real eye-catcher! It features a grove of aspen angled downhill. The light was very appealing, filtering through the forest to light up the grasses around the base of the trees.

Later in the morning, we moved on from the Montane Trail to an area further down the mountainside, below the Silver Tip Golf Course. I took the next couple of pictures from the edge of a ravine bordering the golf course on its south side. The ravine is chock-full of colourful aspen trees transitioning from summer green to autumn gold.

We wrapped it up about noontime, content with our efforts for the morning.
My next post will continue the same theme, featuring autumn scenes photographed earlier this week in Kananaskis Country.
