Sometimes you just get lucky! It was a late January afternoon 2009. I was reading upstairs in Canmore, when I happened to glance out the window. I was struck by the pinkish glow to the sky and realized there was a picture to be taken. I got quite a few but one in particular stood out from the others. This scene was taken from the rear deck or our house, looking west down the Bow Valley in the direction of Banff. The Bow Valley is bounded on the right side by the Fairholm Range and on the left by the Rundle Range. The peak in the centre-left of this photo is Cascade Mountain. The Town of Banff is behind the Rundle Range and just to the left of Cascade Mountain.
I feel lucky to have been in Canmore on that particular afternoon and a little fortunate to have looked up from my book when I did. I like the photo, but it doesn’t really capture the experience of witnessing the sky as it looked on that day.
Gorgeous picture, Peter! Keeping the skyline very low accentuates the sky perfectly, which of course, is what you wanted!
Excellent Shot Peter – I am very jealous of the mountain scenary that surrounds you.
Peter….what a georgeous photo…it looks like a painting!
Great photo, Peter.
