It must be time to go home. Weather in Arizona is good; hasn’t rained in the 6 weeks we’ve been here and we’re looking forward to another clear, sunny day tomorrow with a forecast high of 23 deg C. Enough with the weather reports. Enough of this fine weather. I guess I’m getting eager to experience a little winter. As our return date approaches, I think about the cool, crisp air and clean white snow and realize that I miss it. Yes really!
As I skim through my photo archives I find myself drifting toward the winter scenes and in so doing I came across a picture I like from February 2009. This picture was taken near our home in Canmore, looking westward down the Bow Valley at about mid-morning. It’ similar to my last posting “Winter Sunset” but from a different vantage point. This spot is a popular one for people taking photographs and for speed cameras. Someone is always taking a picture here, not always a picture of the scenery.
This is the view from a bend in the road where there’s a convenient pullout, presumably for photographing or simply taking in the view. The right side of the picture is bordered by the Fairholm Range and somewhat obscured by cloud is Cascade Mountain in the upper left corner. In the foreground is a Canmore neighbourhood, situated along the Bow River. The town centre is not visible in the scene but it would be found about 3 km down the valley in the centre of the photo.
If it looks cold, it was. I didn’t linger too long after getting the picture.
Nice shotPeter – Looks like a Christmas card! I especially like the red-coated figure walking along the road.
Peter – I really like this shot. I’ve taken some photos from the same vantage point, but not as expertly. You’ve captured the feeling of winter in a small Canadian town perfectly.
