I went on a brief photo excursion in Banff NP this afternoon. The temperature was a balmy 4 deg C and the skies partly cloudy. Can’t pass up that kind of weather at this time of year! I was joined by Howie Dingle and we spent a leisurely couple of hours along Highway 1A and at the Vermilion Lakes, near Banff. We’ve worked this particular area pretty well in the past, but Howie guided us to a location I had not found on prior visits. The Vermilion Lakes never disappoint and we were again blessed with some pretty good light. I begin with a wide angle of the area with some open water in the foreground and Mt. Rundle in the background.
The late afternoon sun, although largely obscured by cloud did cast a nice warm glow. The colour on the underside of the clouds and patches of blue sky created bright reflections on the open water. The derelict tree is very eye-catching and adds interest to the scene. I thought it was so interesting I took the following close-up without the distracting beauty of Mt. Rundle in the background.
As this picture’s title suggests, this old log has lots of character and makes a great photo subject. I like the complement of the snow on the log and the reflected blue and gold in the water is very appealing. It was a great day to be out in nature. Hope you enjoy the photos.
Peter – I just love the way you captured the soft light and colours; you created a nice mood; I can almost ‘feel’ the quiet. Great work. Bob.
Peter, love the way the willow is reflected under the bent horizontal tree trunk. Almost makes me wish I was there to enjoy…just almost though. Paul
