I haven’t been very active taking photographs, with no specific excursions recently. I’ve been taking some shots when the occasions arose and I’ve spent some time developing earlier pictures from my archives.
Today, I’m sharing a variety of pictures from a number of locations, taken at different times. “Odds and Ends” is probably the most fitting title I could come up with for this post.
Earlier this winter, I traveled to Tucson for a day to visit a variety of photo locations, including a trip up Mount Lemmon. Following is a scene from the road leading up the mountain.
Just over two weeks ago, we made a stop in Castlegar B.C. to visit with our son, Jonathan and his family, on our way home from Arizona. We visited nearby Nelson, where our daughter-in-law, Nadja debuted her business venture at an outdoor market at Rotary Lakeside Park. I had a camera with me and I couldn’t resist taking a few shots of the beautiful scenery from the shore of the Kootenay River.
My next picture was taken just a few weeks earlier in our neighbourhood in North Scottsdale. I photographed this motherly Great Horned Owl, keeping an eye on her recently-hatched owlets, nesting in a nearby Saguaro cactus.
This next photograph dates back to 2017, taken at Norris Point in Newfoundland. I didn’t develop it at the time, but a recent re-discovery of it in the archives prompted to me to do so now. At the time, we were traveling with friends from Canmore. The photographers among us were diligently looking for good photo opportunities. My choice of this scene and a few others like it became a source of merriment among the entire contingent. Not unwarranted and not unfair. Sufficient time has now transpired for me to feel ready to reveal it.
Seriously, I see it as a quintessential, small town Canadian scene that will always be reminiscent of my first trip to Newfoundland.
Back to Nelson, B.C. This bridge, known to locals as B.O.B. crosses the Kootenay River at the north end of town. The picture was also taken from the Rotary Lakeside Park, I couldn’t miss it! My son Jon told me that the demarcation between the orange and the pink coloration was the high water mark. Nice try, Jon.
My most recent picture was taken in the course of a walk I took yesterday in Canmore. The vibrant green of these budding aspen trees caught my attention against the sombre sky in the background.
I’ve been trying to capture a picture of a cardinal for some time. Finally, I found one willing to pose and I was able to get this picture of him in the neighbour’s tree next door.
This lovely flower was photographed a few weeks ago in our garden, in Arizona. The flower blossoms every year in April. It’s the flower of an Echinopsis cactus which only last a few short days. I watch for them.
That concludes today’s blog post, I hope you’ve enjoyed the photographs.
Very nice Peter!!!
Hi Peter:
Love your odds n ends as you called them but there’s NOTHING ODD about them, you captured something great in each one of them, loved the line of clothing, reminds me of the good old days.
