We had some beautiful winter weather yesterday, a bit on the cool side about -18 deg C. but no wind. There was a light dusting of fresh snow and some frost on the trees. I took a few pictures in early evening and have chosen to post a couple here today. The first is a view down our street. Not much to see but the light was quite appealing as the rising moon was trying to peek out from behind some clouds. The lower atmosphere was quite hazy but you can make out the vague form of Grotto Mountain. Its ridge line can be seen along the treetops on the left side of the image.
Several sources of light influence this picture. Obviously the moon, casting a cool light, a warm glow from the streetlight in the foreground and an orangish tone from some homes across the street. Quite colourful for an evening scene!
The next picture is one of our house, viewed from the street. Lots of light in the foreground, given off by the house. The mountains behind are dimly light by the partly obscured moon, but they are quite visible. I’m hoping for a clear evening with a full moon approaching. With unobscured light, the snow on those peaks will light up quite brightly!
This should be a good week for night photography. With a little luck, we’ll have clear skies for the lunar eclipse early Tuesday morning. It should be clearly visible from our house and I look forward to seeing it and hopefully getting a few pictures.
Idylic!. Wonderful to see the beauty of where you hang your hats!
Terrific shots, Peter. I particularly like the view of your home – could be a Christmas card. I’d be interested in some of the set-up details. Bob.
Absolutely gorgeous Peter. We want to come back!!! Soo hot over here and all that lovely snow but I guess you both hate it just like we are over the heat and rain and there is a lot more to come they say and the heat is here for a few more months. Whinge, whinge we are never happy are we. If I knew how to take photos like you do I could have taken some nice shots last night as our moon was giving a lovely light show.
