Rolande and I enjoyed an excellent Christmas dinner with family in Calgary. We were hosted by my cousin Valorie and her husband, Pat and shared the occasion with my aunt Ellen Craig and cousin, Paula Craig. I brought my camera, of course and captured a number of memorable shots of the occasion. I will post only one of them today, a picture of a candle which adorned the dinner table. I think it is a fitting symbol of the holiday season and this candle in particular made a beautiful centerpiece for the table.
The room was relatively dark and the flame itself very bright. I manually set the aperture at f11.0 and the shutter speed at 1/100 sec. to avoid over-exposing the flame and I used some flash assistance to illuminate the candle. (You can see the highlights from the flash on the molten wax, the berries and glass candle holder.) At a distance of about 16 inches (40 cm), the depth of field was shallow enough to add a soft blur to the background.
Hope you too have had a happy holiday season. Best wishes for the upcoming New Year.
