First Post of the New Year
A combination of things have kept me from photography in the month since our return to Arizona. That includes the usual fixes to domestic amenities, left unused since our departure last spring, some household projects and the resumption of the administrative duties of running a home.
Without the time to venture far from home, I’ve taken a few pictures in the neighbourhood, seeking interesting subjects among the usual surroundings of suburban living.
I began close to home with this following scene from our back yard, featuring an intriguing Palo Verde tree, bathed in late afternoon sunshine. The scene lacks the floral colour, destined to follow as we move forward into spring, but it has its own charm.
Rolande received this beautiful bouquet of flowers from our friend, Pat Stewart. I couldn’t resist including it in today’s collection of photographs.
Returning to the outdoors, I looked for interesting compositions among the customary, everyday surroundings of our neighbourhood. Interesting compositions can often be found by focusing on particular elements of a larger subject(s). I believe that to be the case with this close-up shot of two plants in our front yard.
I took this photograph, looking upward from beneath a young, Saguaro cactus, bordering our next door neighbours’ yard, shaded by a nearby tree. This cactus is sprouting its first arms (3), something that typically doesn’t occur before reaching the age of ~75 years.
A little further down the driveway, I captured this image of two yucca plants, flanked by an Ocotillo cactus on the left.
That wraps it up for this first post. I look forward to going further afield on my next photo excursions and hopefully finding some more unique and interesting compositions.
