2nd Time Around from the Archives
Today, I’m sharing a series of un-related photographs, drawn from my archives. I haven’t done nearly as much photography in the past four months as I would normally do. My inventory of new, raw images is largely depleted. That doesn’t mean I have nothing to work with. For this post, I chose a mix of older, raw files that had I had not previously processed and I re-worked a few others that I had previously completed. In the latter case, I simply enhanced the images using new techniques. New methods emerge constantly with the ongoing improvements to photographic software.
The first image captures cactus flowers, photographed in the early evening at our home in Arizona. As the sun goes down, these blooms close for the night. They open again in the morning. I used a 100 mm focal length macro lens, a speciality lens used for close-ups. This lens enabIes me to focus at a distance very close to the subject and take advantage of its lengthy focal length. I was able to position my camera at a distance of 14″ (356 mm).
I recovered this photograph from my archives, a picture of a Live Oak tree, draped with Spanish moss. The location is a park in Mandeville, Louisiana, on the opposite side of Lake Pontchartrain from New Orleans. (That’s not Lake Pontchartrain just behind the tree. It’s a large puddle.)
This is a view of Manhattan, photographed from Pier 91 on the Hudson River, just as our cruise ship was about to depart. I re-worked a photograph I had developed last autumn, using some newly acquired Photoshop colouring techniques.
I took this photograph last autumn in the foothills, northeast of Canmore. I’m satisfied with the development of this image as it is and I made only minor colour adjustments to it for this post.
This is another Live Oak tree from Mandeville, LA. It was developed from the original RAW image, applying new colour techniques I’m using. I regret the image size for this post is small. The full screen display is much better for viewing this photograph in particular.
Today’s last photograph dates back several years. I was driving home from Kananaskis Country, following a later afternoon, photographic excursion. When this scene came into view I knew I had to stop and photograph it.
That’s it. I’m back in Canmore, looking forward to renewing my inventory of new images.
Hi Peter … beautiful reworks and that, in itself, is an interesting project! I love the blue-teal-turquoise in the NYC skyline, if my computer is showing a true likeness of that blue. Remarkable oak tree!!
Did you happen get any pictures of the recent aurora borealis? We were flying back from Mexico that night and totally missed it. 🙁
Keep on, keepin’ on.
Paula
Thanks, Paula. Glad you enjoyed. Regrettably, I missed the aurora borealis too!
