We’re enjoying a beautiful February in Canmore. We’ve had lots of snow, replenished with a fresh coating earlier this week. It has been a bit on the cold side in the morning (lows of close to -30 deg C) but just beautiful later in the day. It certainly helps to have clear, sunny skies. Today, I’m sharing some scenes taken this week that show how beautiful a Canadian winter can be.
This is a morning picture, looking up our street toward our house (not visible on the right). I was out early, before the snow plow got there, so just a few tire tracks in the fresh snow. In the distance you can see two of the Three Sisters, Canmore’s landmark.
I took this shot through an upstairs window, looking north across the Bow Valley. I wanted to capture the snow glistening on the roof as the morning sun rose.
Another morning shot, this one of the Canmore end of Mount Rundle. This range stretches west to Banff, a little over 20 km. I have many shots of this mountain, but I liked the wispy cloud drifting across the scene, so I photographed it again.
I took this last picture this afternoon. I went down near the Bow River with friend and fellow photographer Greg Bourque, who came out from Calgary for a visit. I saw this scene yesterday and thought it would make a good photograph. The temperature was about -15 deg C, but with the sun shining it was quite pleasant.
I hope you like the pictures, irregardless of how you feel about winter, snow and cold.
