Today’s excursion was to Two Jack Lake, a short distance north of the Town of Banff. It is one of several lakes in this area which offer a nice combination of water and mountain scenery. We arrived in time for the sunrise but the heavy overcast prevented any bright colour in the morning sky. The light was good nonetheless and brought out the turquoise-green colour of the water very nicely. The lake bottom was visible in the foreground and it, combined with the colour of the lake water and the mottled light coming from the sky produced an interesting effect.
This picture was taken looking south toward the Town of Banff. That’s Mount Rundle in the background, a landmark of the town. I like the small island in the foreground and of course the mix of colours and shades in the lake.
I turned eastward for this next photograph, looking for a little colour in the sky. I was successful; I did find little colour! The light is brighter in this direction and warmer, creating a different look to the colour of the lake. I’ve captured the same small island from a different angle and that’s Mount Inglismaldie in the background. Mount Inglismaldie is a part of the Fairholme Range, stretching eastward from Banff to Canmore.
Today’s final picture was taken again facing south toward Mount Rundle, but from a different location along the lakeshore. I titled this shot “Canada Geese” in recognition of the flock that swam through the scene. If you look carefully, you can see them right in the middle of the photograph. Hams!
