I set out this evening to photograph the wildflowers at Cascade Meadows, located near Banff at the base of Cascade Mountain. I had checked out this location a few days ago and judged that the ox-eye daisies would be at their peak about now. I wasn’t far off, the daisies were ready to photograph. The evening light was such that it made sense to photograph Mount Rundle to the south, rather than Cascade mountain to the west. At this time of day, Cascade is backlit while Rundle is being nicely illuminated from the west. Easy choice.
I got a number of good shots from different vantage points, framing flowers into the foreground and taking advantage of some interesting clouds that were blowing through, an evening rain shower. When I thought I had enough, I headed back to the car. Just before crossing the road, I glanced back at Mount Rundle and to my delight I spotted the picture I wanted. The rain shower was upstaging the flowers! I had come for flowers but the clouds, the light on Mount Rundle and a rainbow had become the real eye-catchers.
The showers passed quickly leaving clear skies. It was time to move on. A pretty good evening for photographing wildflowers with a little bonus thrown in.
Your photos are beautiful,Peter. Coffee table book quality. Love this one.
