We visited friends, Bunny and Dale at their home in Mesa and in the course of taking a few pictures of their dog, I noticed some truly amazing sky scenes unfolding. Never one to pass up a good photo, I took some shots that I like and that I’m sharing with you today.
Here’s the sight that first caught my attention, clouds fanning out from the horizon creating an amazing background to the house. The sun was getting low in the sky, casting some interesting shadows and a warm glow on the house.
The sun’s glow is even more apparent in this next image which focuses more on this corner of the house than the sky itself. I simply liked the light on the window and the Ocotillo cactus reflected in it!
The next shot is more abstract. I like the parallel strips of cloud which might be mistaken as contrails from airplane traffic, but I assure you these clouds were entirely natural. I thought I needed that little stretch of roofline to complement the clouds.
As time progressed and the sun dropped lower in the sky, I turned my attention to the setting sun in the opposite direction. I couldn’t resist Dale and Bunny’s enormous Saguaro cactus in the foreground, catching some late afternoon rays. I used a little flash to add some highlights to the shaded side of the cactus. Note the total absence of clouds to the west.
My last picture was taken as the sun was dropping below the horizon. I like the transition of colour from the horizon to the top of the photo. Those impressive palm trees are not native to the Sonoran Desert, but are very popular and can be seen thriving in many areas in the Phoenix metropolitan area.
Yesterday’s weather was gorgeous and seems to be signalling a change to warmer and sunnier times. The last month has been chillier than normal and of course, improving weather can be expected as we now prepare to return home to Canmore.
It snowed here in Calgary last night 🙁
