The Bush Highway is a scenic road through the desert, east of Phoenix. It runs from Highway 87 near Fountain Hills to Mesa, a distance of about 18 miles (29 km). Along the way there is a broad range of desert scenery including mountains, a lake and a river. Of course, desert foliage is abundant featuring the very prominent Saguaro cacti and the colour that begins to emerge in the early Spring. We took a drive along the Bush Highway in the late afternoon and I was able to get a good variety of shots.
This first picture is not what you might expect to see in the desert, a view of Red Mountain from the east side of the Salt River just north of Mesa. I like the warm colours in this scene. The sun is low in the sky, casting its warm glow on the flanks of Red Mountain and the foliage in the foreground.
Following is a slideshow with my favourites from our late afternoon trek along the Bush Highway. It features pictures of the Goldfield Mountains, the Salt River, Red Mountain and the desert foliage.
My thanks to Dave Foreman to bringing this great area to my attention.
