Earlier this week, I participated in a hike to Lillian Lake, located in Kananaskis Country. It is accessed via the Galatea Creek Trail, just south of Mount Kidd. We were graced with a glorious day to enjoy this beautiful trail which ascends about 6.5 km to the lake. As suggested by its name, the trail follows Galatea Creek which is brimming with water at this time of the year. We crossed several bridges over the creek along the way and enjoyed the continuous sound of the water tumbling downward toward the Kananaskis River. This trail is almost completely within the trees, which was a good thing on a very warm day.
I begin this post with a picture of Galatea Creek.
I have several photos to share today and rather than describe the obvious, I’ve put them in a slideshow for you to view. All I can say is that it was a beautiful place to visit on a beautiful day. Click on the right side of each photo to advance, on the left side to go back. Please enjoy.
For those interested in the techniques employed, there isn’t much to say. All shots were hand held which in most cases was very easy. The light was generally very bright but in the few shaded areas where I took photos, I was able to get a good shutter speed by simply increasing the ISO setting. All shots were captured with ISO at 400 or less. With the bright light, I made good use of a circular polarizing filter, particularly to cut glare on the water of the lake and creek. I did lower shutter speed on a few shots of the creek (3/10 sec) to get a slight streaming effect. I can do it without a tripod by carefully bracing myself; there were ample trees around.
I look forward to another hike next week, hoping the weather will again give me chance at some pictures.

Looks like you had lots of fun 🙂
