Early this morning, I returned to the Bow River, this time further west, just past Banff where Highway 1A branches off from the Trans-Canada Highway. I was accompanied by Bob Bear and Stu Hamilton and we initially sought to photograph some groves of aspen trees which are now turning a brilliant shade of green. Alas, the skies clouded over and the light wasn’t great to capture the vibrance we were hoping to get. So, instead we chose to set up along the banks of the Bow River, drawn by the mist hanging over the water and the low hanging clouds over the mountains. As our morning progressed, the clouds dispersed and we had some great sunlight poking through.
Here’s my first picture, looking south toward the highway bridge crossing the river with the Sundance Range in the background.
The next shot was taken facing westward along the river. In the distance you can see the Massive Range with Mount Bourgeau in the centre of the photograph.
I turned my attention northward for this next shot. It shows Mount Cory poking through the clouds as the morning mist began to disperse. I was fortunate to capture its reflection in a small inlet off the river.
I have some more, similar shots that I’ve included in the following brief slideshow. Click on the left side of the photo to advance; on the right to back up.
