We played golf on 5 of the 10 days we were in Ireland, an important part of our trip. We had the opportunity to play some of the very best that Ireland has to offer, including three classic, seaside links courses. We also enjoyed great weather, sunny and warm on most days. We didn’t really regret that we missed the full “Irish golf experience” which includes wind, rain and cool temperatures.
I won’t comment much on the pictures, I have quite a few! I’ll share a couple of favourites and include the remainder as a slideshow. Here’s the first, a scene from the Ballybunion Links in County Kerry on Ireland’s west coast.
The next scene is one from the Lahinch Course, another seaside links on the west coast. It shows the remains of an old castle, now surrounded by the adjacent Castle course, across the road from Lahinch.
My favourite course was Royal County Down, located in Newcastle, Northern Ireland on the east coast. We played on a misty day as you can see from the low cloud cover over the course. It wasn’t a good day to be carrying a camera, so I took this shot with my iPhone. It does a great job.
My last featured playground is the Adare course, located in Adare, Limerick County. This course was one of the few we played that is not an oceanside links course. It is a very traditional, parkland design, created by the renowned American architect, Robert Trent Jones, Sr. The picture shows the bridge crossing the stream in front of the 18th green, with the 16th green in the background.
For those who may not have seen enough, I’ve included a slideshow of some additional photographs. Click on the right side of the pictures to advance and on the left to back up.
