Powerscourt Gardens in County Wicklow is one of the most beautiful gardens in Ireland! We were fortunate to visit them in the course of our time spent in Dublin. Powerscourt is a large country estate which is noted for its house as well as its landscaped gardens, today occupying 19 hectares (47 acres). The house, originally a 13th-century castle, was extensively altered during the 18th century, starting in 1731 and finishing in 1741. A fire in 1974 left the house lying as a shell until it was renovated in 1996. Today the estate is owned and run by the Slazenger family. It is a popular tourist attraction, and includes a golf course, an Avoca Handweavers restaurant, and a Ritz-Carlton hotel.
My post today includes a number of scenes photographed during our visit. I begin with a picture of a magnificent fountain that really caught my attention.
The remainder of today’s pictures is presented as a slideshow. As always, click on the right side of the picture to advance to the next; click on the left to go back.
On the same day we visited Powerscourt Gardens, we also went to the Glendalough Monastic Site. More on that in a future post.
