We were traveling to Radium, B.C. when we spotted two whitetail deer grazing along the side of the road. Not an unusual site in Kootenay National Park. We pulled over to take some pictures, always in the hope we’ll get something different. One deer noticed us first, did the usual still poses and then meandered off into the bush. No post-worthy pictures there! Meanwhile, the other deer kept on eating, seemingly unaware of our presence. Then she looked up, noticed her companion was gone and then spotted us. She decided to bolt and gave me something different to photograph, a whitetail in full flight! I captured 11 shots in about 3 seconds, the time for the deer to sprint to the sanctuary of the forest, a distance of about 30 meters. Here’s a slideshow showing the speed and grace of these beautiful animals. Did you ever wonder why they’re called whitetail deer?
