Yesterday I accompanied Barry and Pat Stewart to the Members’ Preview of the upcoming Chiluly in the Garden exhibition at the Phoenix Desert Botanical Garden. The exhibition features the glass sculpture of artist Dale Chihuly, carefully integrated into the natural setting of the garden. Chihuly is credited with revolutionizing the Studio Glass movement and elevating the perception of the glass medium from craft to fine art. He is renowned for his ambitious architectural installations around the world, in historic cities, museums and gardens.
Of course, we took the opportunity to get some photographs and I’m including several of mine it today’s blog post. I begin with the spherical sculpture that you encounter as you first enter the garden, the first of many extraordinary and vibrant works of art that make up the exhibition.
The remainder of today’s photos are presented as a slideshow. Watch for a close-up of the sculpture pictured above and as you scroll through the pictures, notice how the sculptures are positioned to fit in with the natural forms of the garden. Click on the right side of the pictures to scroll forward; on the left to reverse.
The exhibition continues until May 18, 2014. I hope to return.
Amazing contrasts of beautiful gardens and fabulous glass sculptures!
Installing the sculptures would have been quite challenging!
“A prickly proposition”
Oh, these are spectacular! Do you have more ? I love Glas Art.
