Now for the last of my pictures from our recent trip to Victoria, B.C. They were mainly taken in an area around the city’s harbour because that’s where we spent most of our time. There are some taken as well from the whale watching boat as we motored along the shoreline outside the harbour. I couldn’t resist some more flowers, demonstrating that the Butchart Gardens isn’t the only place to enjoy Victoria’s floral splendour.
Let’s begin with the inner harbour area. First a wide angle view of Fisherman’s Wharf, followed by close-ups of some of the homes sited on the wharf. Residents lease space on the wharf for their homes, as would a boat owner for a mooring. Fisherman’s Wharf is very nice place to spend some time. It certainly is colourful.
The harbour is a very much a working harbour and a busy one with almost non-stop marine and air traffic throughout the daylight hours. I couldn’t get over all the float planes. They provide regular passenger service to nearby destinations; Vancouver, Seattle, smaller cities on Vancouver Island and some of the Gulf Islands. Here’s a plane about to land. At first it appears treacherous but the planes require very little room to land and stop. The boats and the planes manage to share the harbour’s seemingly limited space, safely and without inconvenience to either.
Following are two examples of the beautiful light that makes this area attractive to photographers.
Moving out of the inner harbour, I was able to capture some nice scenes along the shoreline from our boat, the Serengeti, beginning with this picture of a cruise ship moored at the Victoria terminal. Again, note the extraordinary light.
Moving northward along the Saanich Peninsula is some pretty nice real estate, including this little cottage on the waterfront in Oak Bay. If you’re wondering about the water (its absence), the tide was extremely low at this time. Yes, this is waterfront property, you can see indications on the rocks where the water has been.
Lastly, a couple of flowers I spotted as I wandered through some residential areas. The Victoria climate is very well suited to gardening.
That wraps it up for Victoria. A great place to visit.
Loved all the colour….buildings and flowers.
Great job….as usual.
