I have mentioned my hometown of Canmore in many past blogs but I’ve done very few about the town itself. I’ve been enjoying the fall colours this year and have taken a few pictures which I’d like to share with you in this blog. I begin with a panoramic view, taken from a vantage point near our home. This location is very popular with visitors, entering Canmore via the Three Sisters Parkway. It is a roadside viewpoint which offers this expansive view of the Bow Valley, looking to the northwest. The valley is bordered on the right side by the Fairholme Range and Mount Rundle on the left. You can see the Bow River in the centre of the scene and a residential area in the foreground. The Canmore town centre is just beyond the area you see in shade. Without high-rise buildings you can’t see it behind the slope below Mount Rundle. We live just a short walk up the slope to the left of where the picture was taken.
The remainder of today’s pictures are presented in a slideshow. They were taken in the general area of where we live on two separate occasions. Last week I took a walk toward the town centre and got a number of interesting shots despite it being a rather dull, overcast day. Those pictures were taken along a main street, Three Sisters Drive, leading into downtown Canmore. Yesterday, was a bright sunny day so I went to a couple of locations I knew would photograph well under those conditions, including the panorama I included above.
I took all the pictures handheld, using my “hiking camera”, a Canon 40D, fitted with a 18-200 mm zoom lens. With the generous wide angle to telephoto range, this lens is very versatile, enabling me to frame my pictures in a variety of ways. Hope you enjoy this glimpse of Canmore in the autumn.
All of these shots belong in a magazine. I want to go to Canmore! The path and the hike you took me on was wonderful.
I have a thing about rocks and you captured the feel and texture of them. The sun, the sky, the deep green, and all the colors and light are gorgeous. Thank you! Jinette is so good to send these to me!!!
