During a recent visit to Toronto, I wandered around Trinity Square, camera in hand and found some interesting cityscapes. Trinity Square is located downtown. It is bounded by the Eaton Centre, an office building known as Bell Trinity Square, and the Marriott Downtown Eaton Centre Hotel. The square’s primary feature is the Anglican Church of the Holy Trinity. The scene here is a juxtaposition of the old and the new; the church, dating back to 1847, surrounded by modern steel and glass skyscrapers.
My first picture features the church, viewed from the walkway into Trinity Square from Bay Street. The day was mostly overcast with colours muted and I thought this scene is best presented in black and white. I also think black and white works well on older buildings. I like how it conveys the church’s architectural character.
The next photograph displays the stained glass windows above the front entry of the church, including the reflection of an adjacent building.
This next photo, “The Old and the New” offers a glimpse of the Eaton Centre, towering over the old church. It highlights the contrast between the architecture of two distinctly different eras in Toronto’s history.
I photographed this clock, erected in the square with the Bell Trinity Square building in the background. The clock’s weathered appearance suggests the need for some fresh paint. The time displayed suggests the need for some maintenance on the clock itself (my photo was taken in the early afternoon). Time stands still in Trinity Square.
A good day for photography. The light was good, the air was clear and refuge from the bitter cold was close at hand! You might call it “hit and run” photography.
I really liked the black and white shot of the church entrance. I also thought that the composition was excellent
