We’ve just returned home from a wonderful holiday in Central Europe, a cruise on the Danube River from Budapest to Passau with a three-day extension to Prague in the Czech Republic. The following map shows the course of our journey, covering 530 km (331 miles) over 7 days. Upon debarkation in Passau, we traveled by bus to Prague, about 3 hours north. We traveled with Pat and Barry Stewart, our companions on previous adventures to Africa and the Mediterranean. We enjoyed many fine moments along the way and capped it off watching hockey on television. Huh? We arrived in Prague on the same evening that Canada defeated Russia 6-1 to capture the World Hockey Championship. The game was played in Prague and although we didn’t get to the arena, it was a unique experience watching it on television in the hotel bar. The game was broadcast in Czech so we have no idea what they said, but it wasn’t hard to see what was happening.
I did take some photographs, a little more than 1200. It will take me some time to cull, organize and develop them for further use, but I do intend to publish a few blogs sharing some of the scenes we witnessed along the way. Today, I have a slideshow with some pictures that caught my attention early in the process. For a better view of the pictures, try the full screen mode (the middle button on the menu bar at the bottom).
For these long trips, I’ve learned to bring as little equipment as I can, a camera, a versatile lens and one filter. All the pictures were taken handheld (no tripod) and that can be challenging for night pictures or photographs taken in dark places, like cathedrals. Many don’t work out, but there are always a few that I’m happy to show.
