I was out for a drive in Kananaskis Country yesterday, hoping to see some bears before they go into hibernation. No luck. It’s apparent that the berry crop is not great this year, so the bears have gone elsewhere in search of their last meals before winter. I had to be satisfied with some bighorn sheep I encountered. They’re real “hams” and are always willing to pose for any photographer that comes along.
The first one I’m showing you is a female (ewe) grazing on grass at the roadside. She bears the unmistakable signs of being out all night, frost on her coat. She’s also eating frosted grass; I wonder what she does to keep warm!
I found this next fellow (a ram) earlier in my trip. He’s a good-sized animal without much wear and tear, probably quite young. He boasts a healthy set of horns, something to stay away from.
Not a bad day. Looks wintry. It was, at an elevation of 7,200 ft. (2,195 metres). It’s much nicer here today in Canmore, sunny and relatively warm 14 deg C (58 deg F). Look here to see what National Geographic has to say about the bighorn’s vital statistics…Bighorn Sheep
I like these images, Peter. An interestingly composed shot of the ewe. Nice shot of the ram, also. A DOF challenge with this second shot, which you handled well. Great work.
