The title for today’s post is a quote attributed to Mark Twain. It refers to golf and on some days I heartily concur. I played yesterday and although my play was “so-so”, it was anything but a walk spoiled. I chose to bring along a camera, intending to capture the beautiful colour of the purple sage, a bush very popular with local landscapers. Of course I did photograph some other scenes that appealed to me. Golf courses scenes can be difficult to ignore.
We played and I photographed at Terravita Golf and Country Club, our neighbourhood course. Credit for the beautifully conditioned greens, fairways and complementing flora goes to Tyler Koser, Director of Agronomy and his staff.
So, to get right to the purpose of the walk, here’s my first shot of a purple sage, taken as we departed the 4th hole.
Among other scenes that I liked and chose to photograph is this formidable tree placed beside the 3d fairway. Its location requires the golfer to hit around it, or ideally over it.
I took very few shots into the brilliant afternoon sun, but I quite liked this view down the 5th fairway. The sun is just to the left as you can see from the shadows accentuating the contours of the fairway.
Back to the purple sage. A view looking down the 6th fairway.
One of the more beautiful holes on the course is the ninth. To the right is the clubhouse, with the Boulders landmark behind it. In the distance, illuminated by the late afternoon sun is the McDowell Range of mountains.
As we traveled down the 9th fairway in pursuit of our golf balls, I caught a glimpse of the rising moon. Wow! Glad I had a camera. This next picture features a harvest moon, just as it crests the horizon.
We capped our afternoon with another splendid view of the moon as we drove up the driveway. I took this one last picture from in front of the garage. Sorry if I seem to overdo the moon. You just don’t get a chance like this very often.
Not such a bad walk after all.
Beautiful photos! Cannot wait to get there!
Great shots…..makes us look forward to getting back in a few weeks!

Very nice, Peter. I know how difficult it is to combine golfing with photography – and you did a great job!
Looks like a perfect day…and no one else on the course but you….right!!! Beautiful pictures like usual.
I was looking for your golf ball 6″ from the cup after your approach shot.

Bob
