Every now and then I get the urge to try something new. Usually it’s something abstract, a little out of the ordinary. I’m learning about multiple exposures, something that was fairly simple to do with film but has taken sometime to emerge in digital cameras. With film, you could get a multiple exposure by simply forgetting to advance the film. Creative photographers chose to take multiple exposures in a way as to create some very interesting abstract photographs.
I now have a DSLR camera that enables me to take multiple exposures. Now I need to learn to apply it creatively. Here’s one of my first attempts, a metallic pot that I photographed lying on some stone in the backyard. The camera can be set to do overlay images in a number of ways and of course you can select the number of exposures you include. In this case, I kept it simple, 2 exposures only. The stone shows through to varying degrees, depending on the darkness of the colour. For example, you can see the granularity quite clearly in areas like the inside of the pot (white) and some of the flower petals (yellow). Nothing shows through the dark blue and green.
I look forward to some experimentation with it. Who know’s someday I might develop some mastery over the technique. Quite a ways to go, methinks!
Great first start. So fortunate to have been there to watch you experiment.
Very interesting…..Peter :)!!!!
