It’s been almost a month since I’ve posted anything on this blog. Since returning home to Canmore, I’ve devoted most of my attention to some eye surgery. I’ve had cataracts removed from each eye and new lens implanted. Not very gruelling but I do have to take it easy until the eyes are completely healed. Given the cold temperatures we’ve been experiencing, I really haven’t been that motivated to spend a lot of time outside. Without new photographs, no blogs.
I had the urge to go today, so I took a leisurely walk around the centre of town, photographing anything I could see that appealed to me. No adventuresome hikes yet. But soon!
My first photograph for today was taken looking down an alley between stores on the main street of Canmore. It’s flanked on the left by some nondescript shops and on the right by the Grizzly Paw, a pub for serving the wares of a local craft brewer. Grizzly Paw features some intriguing brews; Rutting Elk Red, Grumpy Bear Honey Wheat, Beaver Tail Raspberry Ale and so on. You get the idea. As you can see, our snow is getting a little grungy. Time for it to be refreshed.
I also visited an area where a local creek runs through the town. Just a pretty site on a lovely day!
Canmore fancies itself a bit of an artsy place. The Town Council is very supportive of the arts community and one of the avenues of their support is public art. “Keeping vigil at the entrance to Main Street, “Big Head” is fast becoming the symbol of Canmore, possessing an enormity and serenity that reflects the Rocky Mountains and the spirit of community.”¹ Located at 8th Street and Policeman’s Bridge, it was created by Alan Henderson, in 2008.

Re-focusing my efforts on my more usual choice of subjects, I took this picture looking along Policeman Creek, down the Bow Valley toward Banff. In the background is Cascade Mountain, one of the recognizable landmarks of the Town of Banff.
My final picture for today is another view of Policeman Creek, again taken from the bridge on 10th Street.
After an hour or so, my fingers were getting numb so I chose to pack it in. It was a beautiful day, sunny and mostly clear. The temperature was -8 deg C (~18 deg F) so it was quite pleasant, apart from having to wear light gloves. It’s hard to operate a camera with heavy mitts on!
Best wishes for a happy and healthy 2016.
Nice photos. I see they did a good job on your eye surgery. I have had one done get the other one done the end of January ,it sure puts a different light on things.
